Born in Brentwood in 1941, he died in 1990 after a fall whilst climbing
He was the leader of the successful first Canadian ascent of Everest in 1982
He worked as a Lecturer in the University of Calgary in Canada and in Plas-y-Brenin, Capel Curig in Snowdonia as an Instructor and in Mountain Rescue
