ZIGGY GOT BIGGY OVER THE SUMMER

By Publicity Manager4th September 2017

Wow!…it’s only 6 weeks since we last saw him but school therapy pet, Australian Labradoodle,  Ziggy, has grown really big and looks very grown up.

His metamorphasis has really shocked boys and staff at school today with many gasping at his appearance and calm demeanour.

Some things never change, though, and everyone was pleased to see him and looking forward to the start of the new academic year with their furry friend alongside them.

SUCCESSFUL FIRST DAY FOR YEAR 7 NEW STARTERS

By Publicity Manager4th September 2017

Our new Year 7 boys started as they meant to go on today, Monday, September 4, very smart, happy and keen to impress on their first day of term.

They were only in school for the morning to familiarise themselves with  the classrooms and corridors and get to know each other  without the older boys being in school.

Everything went smoothly and we look forward to seeing them all again in the morning for a full day of lessons.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IS A HUGE TRIUMPH

18th July 2017Publicity Manager

Our 140th anniversary celebratory mass was a fantastic occasion yesterday, July 17,  with 13 priests and The Bishop of Brentwood con-celebrating in St Antony’s Church.

A host of alumni, former teachers, governors and headteachers and friends of St Bonaventure’s from far and wide travelled to join us at the mass.  A buffet and reception followed on the Friary lawn.

Students were treated to a free breakfast in the morning and had various sessions learning outside the classroom before mass started.

Here are some photos of the day.

HAPPY FEAST DAY ST BONAVENTURE

By Publicity Manager13th July 2017

This Saturday, July 15, is the Feast Day St Bonaventure, our Patron saint.

St Bonaventure, was born at Bagnoregio, in the Lazio region of central Italy, in 1221. His name was John but he received the name Bonaventure after St Francis of Assisi prayed for John’s recovery from a dangerous illness when he was a child and cried out: “O Buona Ventura” which means good fortune.

At the age of 22, John (now known as Bonaventure) entered the Franciscan Order. In Paris he became the close friend of St Thomas Aquinas.

At the age of 35 he was chosen General of his Order. He did much for his Order and composed ‘The Life of St. Francis’ . He also assisted at the translation of the relics of St Antony of Padua.

He was nominated Archbishop of York by Pope Clement IV, but he begged not to be forced to accept that dignity. Pope Gregory X obliged him to take upon himself a greater one, that of Cardinal and Bishop of Albano, one of the six suffragan Sees of Rome.

He died while he was assisting at the Second Council of Lyons, on July 15, 1274.

He is known as the Doctor of the Church.

St Bonaventure continue to pray for all students, staff, governors, parents and friends of our great school.

LATIN AMERICAN FUNDRAISER FOR FIRE DISASTER

By Publicity Manager13th July 2017

The Curriculum  Leader for Spanish at St Bon’s, Miss Mascherin, arranged for a Latin American Community Party to be held in the marquee on the Friary Lawn yesterday, July 12, for her Spanish students and their families, many of whom have Latin American roots.

A selection of Spanish dishes including homemade guacamole and gazpacho was provided whilst Cuban Son and Salsa music  played in the background. One student, Fernando Ruiz-Landeta,  provided live entertainment on his Spanish guitar.

Donations for the Grenfell Fire Disaster Fund were collected and Miss Mascherin went on to explain: “The party went really well and lots of families came out to support the event. The money is still being counted for a final total but I am confident I will be able to pass on a nice cheque to the victims next week from us all in the Spanish Department. Thank you all for your support.”
