Catholic Social Teaching in the Curriculum

Catholic Social Teaching (CST) lies at the heart of our mission as a Catholic school. Rooted in the dignity of the human person and the call to serve the common good, CST provides a moral framework through which pupils are formed to live out the Gospel in the world. The principles of dignity, solidarity, subsidiarity, and justice have always shaped our ethos and practice; our current work seeks to make these principles more explicit and shared across the whole curriculum.

This is a developing journey. By naming CST clearly within subject planning, assemblies, and pastoral life, we are creating a common language that helps pupils see how faith connects to real questions about society, responsibility, and service. CST is not limited to Religious Education but supports the formation of thoughtful, compassionate, and active citizens across every area of learning.

Sustainability and Care for Our Common Home

Our commitment to sustainability is inspired by our Franciscan heritage and the witness of St Francis of Assisi, who modelled gratitude, simplicity, and care for creation. We understand stewardship of the earth as a moral responsibility and an expression of our faith, rooted in respect for God’s creation and concern for the most vulnerable.

This vision is strengthened by Laudato Si’, which calls us to care for our common home through an integrated approach to environmental, social, and economic justice. Across the curriculum and wider school life, pupils are encouraged to understand the impact of human choices and to act responsibly, ensuring sustainability becomes part of our shared culture and daily practice.
