TRUST IN US

By Publicity Manager11th March 2020

Two lucky Year 12 students have been selected for the prestigious Sutton Trust US Programme.

This is a programme that allows students from state schools the opportunity to find out what studying at an American university would be like.

This is a fully-funded programme, giving the pair the opportunity to visit the USA and world-class universities, such as Yale and Harvard, in the summer holidays.

The first part of the programme will be a residential trip to Nottingham University where they will meet the other students who have been selected on the programme from throughout the UK.

They had to go through a very rigorous process that saw hundreds of students from throughout the country applying.

We are so proud of them for making it through such a challenging and selective process.

MAKE THAT A DOUBLE…DOUBLE FINALS JOY FOR OUR BOYS

11th March 2020Publicity Manager
This week saw two of St Bonaventure’s basketball teams fight hard to make the England Basketball Schools National Finals that are being played next week on March 19 at the University of Essex in Colchester.

In the Under 16 semi-final, St Bon’s ballers defeated two time National Champions  Christ’s  College in Richmond 109-106 in a keenly contested game.

Two St Bon’s students in particular had a pivotal role in the victory, Marc and Great Britain player Sultan. They played superbly.

The following day saw the Under 14 semi-final between St Bon’s and St Margaret’s Church of England Academy from Liverpool. In an electric showdown St Bonaventure‘s basketballers raced to a ten point lead, with Matas and Nathan combining well.

St Margaret’s came back strongly in the second half, but the home team never looked like relinquishing their lead. It was a brilliant game.

It ended 92-45 to St Bon’s and Domas gaining MVP honours.

Headteacher at St Bonaventure’s in Forest Gate added: “Everyone at school wishes them all the very best for the finals next week.”
We will all be cheering them on, that’s for sure.

BAPTISTA’S FAMILY ATTEND ASH WEDNESDAY MASS ON WHAT WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS 16TH BIRTHDAY

By Publicity Manager26th February 2020

Today was a bittersweet day.

Baptista would have been 16 today, February 26, if his life had not been so tragically cut short back in October in Stratford.

Baptista’s family and a small group of his Year 11 classmates gathered in Mr McCormack’s office to remember Baptista on this poignant day.

Mr Hayes and Mr Graham joined them and shared a cake to celebrate his birthday.

It was a sad day but one that celebrated his short life too in a dignified and fitting way.

He will be remembered always and as his family’s tee shirt stated – ‘Gone but never forgotten.’

Afterwards his family attended Ash Wednesday mass with the school at St Antony’s Church.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord.

HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY REMEMBERED IN SCHOOL

27th January 2020Publicity Manager
Our History Department ran a workshop at lunchtime today, January 27, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Holocaust.
Students participated in discussion work and analysed visual evidence about the Holocaust.
They welcomed the chance to learn about this topic in more detail and felt that the stories were as poignant as ever.
Students  were heard to comment: “We must never be allowed to forget the Holocaust because we must respect our fellow human beings.  I feel the message of the Holocaust is to speak out against evil and  I am inspired by the courage of Holocaust survivors”.

SPREADING CHRISTMAS CHEER

16th December 2019Publicity Manager

Ms Warren took a group of boys from Years 7 to 11 to East Ham Care Centre to sing festive carols and play instruments for a variety of patients on their wards including dementia patients this morning, December 16.

The carolling helped spread a little Christmas cheer and went down a treat .

The staff at the care ho-ho-home loved seeing our students and said the patients were really happy  to be entertained.

This is a tradition at East Hame Care Centre and our students have been visiting and singing for patients there for almost 15 years.

What a most wonderful time of the year to spread a little happiness.

Thanks to Ms Warren for organising the boys.
