At St Bonaventure’s we offer the following
programme of study:
Year 7 and 8 follow a condensed Key Stage Three Curriculum consisting
of an introduction to History, The Romans, Medieval Realms 1066-1500,
The Making of the United Kingdom 1500-1750, Expansion, Trade and
Industry 1750-1900, the Twentieth Century World and Black Peoples
of the Americas. Students have one lesson a week.
In Year 9 pupils start G.C.S.E. History; with the possible chance
of taking the examination in Year 10. This is a pilot scheme starting
in 2007. Students have two lessons a week.For G.C.S.E. History pupils
study Nazi Germany, International Relations 1919-39, Britain 1906-1918
with coursework on Prohibition and the New Deal. Students have two
lessons a week.
For AS Level students study: The Cold War, Nazi Germany, Russia
and Britain 1906-39.For A2 Level students study: The Age of Roosevelt,
Civil Rights 1865-1980 and an Independent Investigation. Teaching
is shared with our sister school, St Angela’s.Students have
five lessons a week.This subject is popular amongst pupils with
exam results above the school average.

When studying History you will:
- Use information effectively- this can help shed light on a
particular issue or problem confronting an organisation or an
individual.
- Weigh conflicting evidence carefully before taking critical
decisions.
- Be analytical and critical when considering information presented
to you.
- Understand why and how humans behaved as they did - and may
behave in similar circumstances again. This can be vital for most
jobs and in relations with your colleagues.
- Learn the arts of oral debate and expressing a clear personal
point of view - Invaluable skills at job or university interviews.
So where can you go with History???
