A Catholic School

St. Bonaventure's School Motto

“In sanctitate et doctrina”
In holiness and learning

St. Bonaventure's is a Catholic Comprehensive School firmly embedded in its local community.  Below is some information on this aspect of St Bonaventure's.

Italian Bishop's Visit

On Tuesday 10 June, we had the privilege of hosting a visit from 17 Italian Bishops and a Cardinal. We are the only school in England that they visited and the nature of their visit was to plan for the future of education in Italy, as currently there are no publicly funded Catholic Schools in their country.

Our visitors were first given a brief history of the school and East London by Msgr John Armitage and then given a tour around the school. They observed lessons, sports displays, enjoyed a terrific performance by the school
choir and took part in a special liturgy service, after which, they were presented with Serviam badges. The students were delighted when the Cardinal gave them all a blessing.

Diocese of Brentwood RE Inspection Report

As well as undergoing OFSTED inspections the school is inspected by the Diocese of Brentwood who look at religious education and the spiritual side of the school.  The report said "St. Bonaventure’s is an outstanding Catholic School which displays numerous strengths. It is firmly committed to developing its Catholic identity under the inspirational and outstanding leadership of its Head Teacher."

Faith in Schools

The school has been used as one of the six case studies for a national document entitled “Faith in the System” for the Department of Families, Schools and Children. This document publicises the role schools with a religious character play in English society. The document was launched on Monday at the British Library, attended by Cardinal Cormac Murphy O’ Connor (Archbishop of Westminster) and Archbishop Vincent Nichols (Chair of Bishops’ Conference) as well as the Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families, Ed Balls. This is a big achievement for the school and we would like to thank all parents for the part that they have played in this success.
