Gifted and Talented at St Bonaventure’s
School
St Bonaventure's School is committed to maximising
the potential of each individual pupil. As a consequence we have
adopted a broad policy for the identification of our gifted and
talented pupils. Although the DCSF definition of G & T pupils
is the most academically able 5-10%, our audit and identification
will include these pupils. We also recognise that we have numerous
other students who are capable of excelling in one or more areas
of the curriculum who will be encouraged to develop their talents.
We also strive to identify those pupils who have the potential to
achieve, but who do not regularly demonstrate high achievement.
At St Bonaventure’s we aim to improve the
attainment and motivation of our gifted and talented students by
ensuring that they benefit from a coherent and coordinated programme
of curricular and extra curricular provision that combines challenge
and support. We design, implement and coordinate a distinct teaching
and learning programme to meet the individual needs of our gifted
and talented students through a wide range of extension and accelerated
learning activities.
In addition we provide complimentary study support
and enrichment workshops that allow all pupils the opportunity to
obtain optimum levels of learning. To assess the quality of our
provision we monitor and track the progress of our gifted students
against baseline assessments through the key stages. As part of
our development cycle we aim to periodically seek the views of parents,
staff and students to evaluate the effectiveness of the provision
and adapt the curriculum accordingly to meet the needs of our gifted
students.
